Buying a furnace can seem like an overwhelming task with so many options on the market. Before you decide which to install in your home, consider all the benefits of a furnace featuring a variable-speed blower motor. Unlike a standard blower that operates at just one high speed, a variable-speed blower adjusts its speed to meet the heating and cooling needs of your home. Most of the time, it operates at a low but continuous speed, which has the following benefits:
- Lower energy bills. A variable speed motor consumes less electricity than traditional motors, cutting down on your bills. It doesn’t have to overwork itself to heat or cool your house when cycling on and off, but rather maintains a constant comfort level.
- Better air circulation for comfort and savings. Since variable-speed blowers operate nearly continuously, the air circulation is better than with a single-speed motor that cycles on and off. Warm air doesn’t have a chance to collect at the top of rooms where it’s not doing anyone any good.
- Less noise. While a traditional furnace generally causes a sudden blast of air at start-up, a variable speed motor slowly builds up to its most efficient level, eliminating a lot of the noisiness of standard furnace blowers..
- Better air quality. Operating continuously, a variable-speed blower offers superior air filtration, since the air is being cycled through the air filter many more times than with a standard blower. It also offers better humidity control when serving as the blower for an A/C or heat pump.
